Giuliani Enters Staff Sweepstakes
Former New York City mayor Rudy Giuliani (R) has hired Republican National Committee political director Mike DuHaime to lead his exploratory effort for president.
The news of DuHaime's hiring comes just six days before a Giuliani fundraiser in New York City designed to serve as the kickoff for the "testing the waters" phase of his presidential bid. It also signals a willingness by Giuliani to reach outside of his close-knit (and long serving) circle of advisers for staff talent -- a necessity if he hopes to run a credible race for national office.

December 10, 2006 -- I'VE voted against Rudy Giuliani, and I've voted for him. Voting for him is better; it's what I hope conservatives, Republicans and Americans will do in 2008.
Giuliani formed a presidential exploratory committee after the midterm elections, formally entering campaign land. My favorite of the early reax to Rudy was flagged by columnist Deroy Murdock: An anti-Giuliani Web site, SayNoToRudy.org, posted by social conservatives in Ohio, pulled the plug on itself after deciding that "Giuliani is truly a committed Republican and an accomplished conservative on many issues."

Hillary may have the buzz, but Rudy has the better poll numbers - at least for now.
A new WNBC/Marist College survey yesterday found that while Sen. Hillary Clinton (D-N.Y.) is the most popular presidential option among Democrats, a whopping 47% of all voters say they would "definitely not" vote for the former First Lady if she runs for President in 2008.
By contrast, a full two-thirds of voters say they remain open to voting for former Mayor Rudy Giuliani - who would best Clinton, 49% to 43%, if the 2008 race were held today.
The numbers suggest that the Republican Giuliani - whose pre-9/11 record remains a blank to most voters - has room to grow, while Clinton begins with nearly half the electorate aligned against her, experts said.

Former Mayor Rudy Giuliani took two big steps toward a possible White House run yesterday - he hired a top financial whiz from President Bush's team, then announced plans to host his own presidential fund-raiser.
Giuliani's newly minted presidential exploratory committee will hold its first event Dec. 19 in Manhattan, where supporters will pay $2,100 apiece to break bread with Giuliani and Home Depot founder Ken Langone.
But the more significant development was Giuliani's successful hiring of Sandra Pack, 58, a campaign veteran who was chief financial officer for Bush's 2004 campaign, as well as Bush's treasury director in 2000.
"She's a seasoned pro bringing with her years of political experience," said top Giuliani advisor Anthony Carbonetti.
