Rudy's the One

By Steve Forbes

Rudy Giuliani is the real fiscal conservative in the 2008 presidential race. That's why I'm endorsing him for president.

Most Americans know that Mr. Giuliani turned around America's largest city. They know he cut crime and welfare in half; they know that he improved the quality of life from Times Square to Coney Island and everywhere in between. And they witnessed his Churchillian leadership following the terrorist attacks on 9/11.

Less well known is the mayor's fiscal record. Nonetheless, conservatives will find it impressive. He built New York's resurgence not just on fundamental police work, but also on a foundation ...

With considerable frequency, given that the boss is a megamillionaire celebrity with a resort home in Idaho, A-list invitations everywhere and a private plane at his beck and call, the staff of Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger issues one-sentence advisories to the press Sunday nights or Monday mornings: "The governor has returned to the state."

Giuliani Denounces Troop Withdrawal Deadline

Rudolph Giuliani on Tuesday called the Democratic-controlled Congress' challenge to President Bush's policy in Iraq "a terrible mistake" and equated it with waving a white flag in the war against terrorism.

"I can't imagine in the history of war anybody announcing a timetable to run out and retreat," he said at an appearance at a delicatessen in this suburb just over the George Washington Bridge from New York City. "I think it's a terrible mistake. To put up the white flag and announce a timetable for retreat seems like a very bad strategy to me."

Steve Forbes Joins the Rudy Giuliani Campaign Team

Mr. Forbes will serve as a National Campaign Co-Chair and Senior Policy Advisor:

“I am honored to support Rudy Giuliani for President,” Steve Forbes said. “As Mayor of New York City, Rudy Giuliani showed how exercising fiscal discipline – including tax cuts – lowers deficits, spurs economic growth, and increases revenue. It is time the rest of the country benefit from a true fiscal conservative leader who gets real results.”

“Steve and I share an economic vision that embraces supply-side economics, tax relief, and spending restraint,” said Mayor Giuliani. “I look forward to working with Steve and am proud to have him as a member of our team.”

Interview with Rudy Giuliani

KUDLOW: we are right on business, right on america, and right on the money.. we still believe the that free-market capitalism is the best path to prosperity. this evening's program your money and turboprop my exclusive interview with america's mayor rudy Guiliani. he describes a minimalist government of taxes and regulating. he strongly disagrees with potential upload opponents, john edwards and al gore and hillary. he is in good health after his bottle with prostate cancer. i began by asking the mare to see if the seas and economic recession take a look. .

GUILIANI: If you're talking about a response of government, probably what government can do best is to try to limit spending and try to bring down government spending. We haven't done that in a while. We haven't done it in a concerted way. And it seems to me that's how the federal budget can have the best impact on the private economy. And make it clear that we're going to extend the tax cuts and it's not just a temporary thing so people can look forward to long term planning. And look for other ways in which we can put money back in the private sector.

Karla Bertrand '09: Don't let Giuliani 'clean up' America

Karla, a student at Brown, shares her (very liberal) worries about Rudy Giuliani:

So former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani has officially entered the presidential race. Upon hearing his name, many think of "America's Mayor" in the wake of Sept. 11, 2001. Others may conjure up memories of the reduced crime rate, or of blatant First Amendment violations. But there is one insidious phrase which is most commonly used of Giuliani's time in office, and it is that aspect I wish to discuss here.

By JILL GARDINER
Staff Reporter of the Sun

Mayor Giuliani, considered a front-runner for the Republican presidential nomination, says America needs to expand its military and pitched himself as the candidate who would instill fear in the Iranian president.

"What I can do is get things done, accomplish things," the former mayor told a crowd of about 1,000 supporters at a baseball-themed fund-raiser at the Sheraton in Midtown last night. "People said New York was ungovernable. We governed it and it became the best example of urban renaissance."

Rudy Giuliani Speaks at CPAC

This morning, the 34th Annual Conservative Political Action Conference in Washington, DC heard from Republican presidential candidate Rudy Giuliani. This event was covered live by CSPAN.

Before a packed audience, and an introduction by George Will, Rudy Giuliani said the following:

"We have to make a government that functions. One of my heroes is Ronald Reagan and he spoke here 12 times. The people in this room represent a new generation of a Reagan revolution."

"Reagan taught us optimistic leadership. He was a leader which is a combination of being a visionary and a practical person who can achieve results. He had great dreams and visions. He saw a world that could be free of Communism. He saw it as not just another alternative economic philosophy. He saw it as an evil that took from people the most important thing they have. Freedom."

"We believe in lowering taxes. I don't just believe it, I did it many times in NYC. The first time I did it, it was the hotel occupancy tax. It was a small cut and it was the only one I could get from the City Council and State Legislature because we had a big deficit and they wanted to add taxes. The day after we accomplished it, my first deputy mayor, came into my room and said "You just set a record for tax cuts". I said that can't be; it was a measly tax cut. He said it was the only tax cut done in NY."

"We took the welfare program and were able to remove 5-600,000 from the welfare rolls. We turned the welfare agencies into employment agencies. We changed the name of the NYC welfare office to the NYC Job Center."

"We don't say that as someone better than any one else. We say that in a spirit of gratitude and it's our job to share it with everyone else and move forward with the vision that Ronald Reagan had -- as a shining city on the hill. As a nation that will be a leader in the world."
