Edwards gets tough on terrorism in New York; slams Rudy Giuliani

NEW YORK (Reuters) - Democratic presidential candidate John Edwards chose Republican hopeful Rudy Giuliani's home turf of New York on Thursday to say it was not enough to talk tough on terrorism without addressing its causes.

Edwards, a former North Carolina senator and the 2004 Democratic nominee for the U.S. vice presidency, drew Republican ire last month when he dubbed U.S. President George W. Bush's "war on terror" a "bumper sticker."

Former New York mayor Giuliani has focused his campaign on his image as a strong leader after the September 11 attacks destroyed the city's World Trade Center towers.

Edwards dismissed criticism of his "bumper sticker" comment as rhetoric aimed at presenting Bush critics as unpatriotic.

"If Mayor Giuliani believes that what President Bush has done is good and wants to embrace it and run a campaign for the presidency saying 'I will give you four more years of what this president has given you,' he's allowed to do that.

"He'll never be elected president of the United States, but he's allowed to do that," he said.

"America is looking for something different. They want us to be tough ... but they expect us to be smart," he said.

Rudy Giuliani and General Patton

The Libertarian Republican blog comments and reviews Rudy Giuliani's recent speech at the Citadel.

One comment stood out:

"Rudy is a very powerful speaker, and I just don't see how a candy ass like Jonathan Edwards can stand up to him in a debate."

Rudy Giuliani, Edwards Report Income

This week, many news services have reported on the released income figures from Rudy Giuliani and John Edwards. Such as:

"Republican presidential candidate Rudy Giuliani reported a whopping $16.1 million in earned income over the past 16 months."

I am very surprised that the word whopping was not placed in bold and double underlined. The MSM conclusion: Republican money = bad; Democratic money= good.

Is it good that Bill Clinton has made a whopping $40+ million over the past several years with continued government subsidies? Just ask the MSM for the answer.

John Edwards, Al Gore and others are all entitled to make their money. You will never read them earning a whopping amount of U.S. dollars.

NY Post: GOOD RUDY SIGN

By IAN BISHOP

February 8, 2007 -- WASHINGTON - A Rudy Giuliani fan is tormenting rival White House candidate John Edwards - with a "Go Rudy" sign on his own fence just 100 feet from the Democrat's palatial and controversial North Carolina compound.

Edwards' "home is a monster. It's way over the top," said neighbor Monty Johnson, who planted a "Go Rudy Giuliani 2008" sign near Edwards' driveway.

Edwards is catching flak for playing to the nation's poor on the campaign trail - while living large in the most expensive home in all of Orange County, N.C.
