But Who Was Right -- Rudy or Ron?

Human Events | Pat Buchanan

It was the decisive moment of the South Carolina debate.

Hearing Rep. Ron Paul recite the reasons for Arab and Islamic resentment of the United States, including 10 years of bombing and sanctions that brought death to thousands of Iraqis after the Gulf War, Rudy Giuliani broke format and exploded:

"That's really an extraordinary statement, as someone who lived through the attack of 9-11, that we invited the attack because we were attacking Iraq. I don't think I have ever heard that before, and I have heard some pretty absurd explanations for Sept. 11.

The format of the debate makes it difficult for them to say much in depth, so I'd be very interested to hear Giuliani elaborate on his point. I didn't think Ron Paul's statements were very shocking it at all... what he said is backed up by the CIA and the 9/11 Commission Report. It seems to me that he was just speaking the truth, which up until now, I thought we all agreed on.

Agreed. However, I can't decide which is worse: the format of the debate, or the line of questions.

I'd like to know how they arranged to have Giuliani's mic to be open so that he could interrupt Ron Paul's statement. All the others who were stammering to try to interrupt Ron Paul couldn't because their mics were all off. And then they gave Giuliani ANOTHER open mic, and interrupted that with what was obviously canned laughter [and it's quite a shock when you're in an audience like that and they do that, because most people aren't aware of how much they manipulate the audience, even controlling when to applaud and when not to].

I LOVED Ron Paul's cool response to all this STAMMERING though. He sliced through their righteous indignation like a hot knife through warm butter );
